Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK) is a success story in itself. Established in 2002 as the brainchild of stay-at-home mom Sheri Hooper, this interactive children’s museum was created to provide families with the opportunity to spend time together in an educational and fun environment. Modeled after a town square, every exhibit represents a kid-sized version of the real thing… a bank, a diner, a doctor’s office, and much more. Originally located in a 4,500 square foot section of an old church building in a downtown location, within three years, INK was so successful that it had outgrown its space. Recognizing that her dream had come true and that it was time to graduate from a small start-up to a mature business unit, INK was a Gazelle and it was time for a new plan. In January 2006, Sheri enlisted the help of Chris Cosper and Next Level Consulting to help the organization set realistic goals and determine a plan of action that would lead to success. Chris guided INK’s board of directors through the completion of the One-Page Strategic Plan in January. The plan included a focus on core values and the museum’s purpose, identified key initiatives, and determined the actionable tasks that had to be completed in order to move INK to the next level. Within a month, the lease on a new 20,000 square
foot location was signed, and within two months, an army of volunteers
was busy building out the new neighborhood. Chris has continued to coach
INK through the grand opening, and two months after officially reopening
the museum doors, the number of visitors each week has doubled,
educational programs are exploding, and the feedback from parents, kids,
and educators is all positive.
